On June 12, 2023, a significant stride towards safeguarding personal data in Nigeria was taken as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, signed the Nigeria Data Protection Bill, 2023 into law, establishing it as the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023 (referred to as “the Act” or “NDPA”). This momentous Act replaces the Nigerian Data Protection Regulations (NDPR) 2019 and the NDPR Implementation Framework 2019, providing a robust legal framework for the regulation of personal data in the country.
